Google search Console and htaccess file

11 months 1 week ago #437 by Leon
Hi.

Your documentation says:
"Insert this code snippet into your htaccess file, but don't do this if you don't know how to edit your htaccess file!
RewriteRule ^sitemap\.xml$ /index.php?option=com_schuweb_sitemap&view=xml&tmpl=component&id=1 [L] "

If I use sitemap for Google search Console, should I add this line to the htaccess file ?
Or is it enough for Google indexing that I will add a link to
/index.php?option=com_schuweb_sitemap&view=xml&id=1
to the Sitemaps tab of Google Search Console?

Thanks

Hi and welcome Leon,

sorry for the late response I somehow overseen that there is a new message.

Google is changing his behaviour from time to time. So you can just add the long link and see what happens. If google complains, that he wants a xml file you still can do that Rule.

The last time I checked it was ok for google und only yahoo or bing wanted the sitemap.xml file name
